Torrecid Group has obtained FDA approval for its RBLACK, one of the most cutting-edge sustainable innovations in the plastic packaging sector, which allows the automated separation of black plastics for subsequent recycling.

Black plastics have traditionally been a limiting factor in the plastics recycling process, especially in the packaging sector. However, it was not until 2019 that AI-Farben presented its RBLACK at the K-Show in Dusseldorf, the first chemically tailor-made solution for this recycling problem. Since then, AI-Farben started a project of development and continuous improvement of recycling solutions based on the design of new inorganic pigments, creating its range of "RBLACK Recycling Solutions."

Today, as a result of the continuous cooperation with its customers and strategic partners, RBLACK solutions have the best technical performance available on the market, covering all the specific needs of the different types of recycling projects in the packaging sector.

RBLACK is a sustainable black pigment that enables the detectability of black plastics coloured with it. It thus puts an end to the detection problem of carbon black coloured plastics. While a carbon black plastic will end up in the landfill even though it has been thrown into the recycling bin, a plastic with RBLACK can re-enter the value chain and have a second life.

Consequently, RBLACK is an innovation that comes from one of the bases of the plastics value chain to have a positive influence on the entire industry, promoting the circularity of polymer products, all due to a deep knowledge of the current limitations of the recycling technology. A turning point for the plastics sector that reiterates the figure of the Torrecid Group as an innovative company in every market where it expands, providing added value in what the sector needs most.

Having received FDA approval for RBLACK is the result of years of work by AI-Farben and its ongoing collaboration with the world's leading brand owners to achieve an equally powerful and sustainable plastics industry. This certification comes at a time when European regulations demand it the most.

In mid-2021, the restriction of single-use plastics will come into force, which will severely penalise the non-recyclability of any packaging, putting the emphasis of responsibility on the manufacturers, demanding a real commitment from their side.

In light of this situation, AI-Farben and the Torrecid Group, following their mission to provoke the change through innovation, continue to reinforce the RBLACK brand as a necessary solution to put an end to a problem that threatens the entire industry, now with the reinforcement of the FDA.

An aesthetic and sustainable solution that maintains the elegance and functionality of black packaging without losing sight of the need of triggering an environmentally positive change in the plastics sector.
