    Starlinger

Vienna-based Starlinger, a machinery manufacturer and leading producer of woven plastic bag production plants, has released its 2022 sustainability report. It is the company’s first. Available in English and German, the report provides information about Starlinger’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy as well as about the measures the company has already implemented.

An Austrian family company with around 720 employees and 11 branches worldwide, Starlinger & Co Gesellschaft m.b.H. is structured into  three divisions: Starlinger textile packaging, Starlinger recycling technology and Starlinger viscotec. The company’s first recycling lines were built back in 1987 with the idea of making full use of the production waste in woven bag manufacture. Today, machines for the recycling and refining of a wide range of plastics are managed under separate business units and form an important pillar of the company.

At Starlinger, responsibility for CSR has been in the hands of Clarissa Graf since 2019. "Starlinger's first sustainability report can be seen as a summary of where we currently stand," said Graf. "It sets out the CSR policy that we have defined for our company with regard to environment and society, and provides an overview of measures which have already been taken in various areas such as resource and energy management, procurement, training and professional development, or health and safety.”

These measures include the use of renewable energies, a waste management system, sustainable procurement from local and regional suppliers, discouraging business trips by encouraging video conferences and the use of VR glasses for remote support in solving technical problems.

The company also takes the view that its employees are its most valuable assets and has worked to establish an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity. Starlinger offers flexible working hours, training and professional development opportunities – in particular the promotion of youth employment through apprenticeship training and holiday internships – and health care.

In 2020, the company applied for membership of respACT, Austria's leading corporate platform for responsible business. In March 2022, Starlinger became one of the signatory companies of the UN Global Compact, a global pact between the United Nations and over 16,000 business members who work together for a sustainable future.
