It is now possible to check the environmental impact of Greenmantra Technologies’ Ceranovus product line. SCS Global Services (SCS), a third-party certification provider, published the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for the 100% recycled speciality waxes.
An EPD evaluates the environmental impact of products by means of life cycle assessment (LCA). The Ceranovus product line includes both polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) additives, which enhance processing and performance for a wide range of products, including injection moulded products and asphalt products such as roofing and roadways.
The LCA for the Ceranovus PE and PP additives shows, for example, that the global warming potential (GWP) of its product stage emissions totals 1.33 kgCo2eq. The product stage emissions include raw material extraction and processing, transport to manufacturer, and manufacturing.
The LCA interpretation, which conforms to ISO 14044, shows that the overall environmental impact of the products is dominated by the emissions during the manufacturing stage, in the categories global warming potential, ozone depletion potential, and abiotic depletion potential. Raw material emissions follow closely in those impact categories as a significant contributor. In the remaining categories of eutrophication potential, smog formation potential, and acidification potential the largest contributor are the raw material emissions, with manufacture emissions as the lesser contributor. In all impact categories, the raw material transportation emissions appeared as the smallest contributor, at generally less than 10%.
“We committed to the process of publishing the Ceranovus EPD to not only help our customers better meet industry transparency requirements, but also pursued this because we believe it will help our customers gain a competitive edge in positioning their products,” said Domenic Di Mondo, president of Greenmantra Technologies. “Recycled inputs inherently offer environmental impact reductions, and I think the industry will see that come through in the EPD,” he added.
